Whitechapel Gallery : Out of Time, Out of Place: Public Art (Now) talk

For decades, art in the public realm has been characterised by landmark sculpture or spectacular outdoor events. In recent years, artists have rejected the monumental scale and mass appeal of this type of artwork. There is a growing trend towards more unconventional forms that unsettle and disrupt rather than embellish, challenging preconceptions about where, when and how public art takes place.

Claire Doherty, Director of Situations, and Magdalena Malm, Director of Public Art Agency Sweden, join Nato Thompson, Chief Curator of Creative Time, and artist Heather Morison to discuss the risks, delights and challenges of producing new progressive forms of public art.

In association with Situations, Public Art Agency Sweden, European Network of Public Art Producers and Art / Books. This event launches Out of Time, Out of Place: Public Art (Now), edited by Claire Doherty.
