RELATIONS: Diaspora and Painting

In addressing the diaspora, it is a mistake to think national and cultural identity can be rendered in any fixed format marked by an artist’s displacement from one place to another, as if the experience of a second generation immigrant who only knows of their native culture could be compared to someone who is forcefully removed from their place of origin. Pool of Plenty: Michelle Bui

Pool of Plenty is an exhibition that brings together photographic work that transcends the decorative and ornamental language of advertising in a détournement that makes use of touch and smell to surpass mere visual spectacle. In this solo show, the artist engages with a rediscovery of objects, materials, food items and plants that make our environment.

Bill Viola: Naissance à rebours

The presentation at DHC/ART brings together a collection of video works by artist Bill Viola. Four flat panel video works as well as a projection piece are presented alongside Viola's most recent major installation, Inverted Birth (2014). This monumental projection depicts the five stages of awakening through a series of violent transformations, exploring the very nature of our existence: life, death, birth, and rebirth.
