From the Press Release
Edmund Cook presents a sculptural installation with an eponymous video as its central component. The video is an anthro-sci-fi-short film that depicts a scenario in a near present time where a group of people have stopped using flat interfaces as devices to exchange writing and images. Instead, they use object-based interactions to fill the gaps left by these technologies, engaging in ritualistic actions reminiscent of cargo cults or cybernetic research tests. These interactions propose relations that do not revolve around the recording and distribution of experience, constructing a new protocol for the relationship between language and the physical world through a series of surreal experiments with phonetics, gesture and sound.
Edmund Cook (London, 1984) lives and works in London. He studied at the University of Leeds and more recently at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Recent exhibitions, screenings and performances include those at The Lombard Method, Birmingham (2013); Le Lycaeon, Brussels (2013); TENT, Rotterdam (2012); Het Veem Theatre, Amsterdam (2012); Colour Out Of Space, Brighton (2011) and Vera Cortês, Lisbon (2010).
