Christian Falsnaes: One
DREI, Arndtstraße 4, D-50676 Cologne, Germany
7 November - 14 December 2013
From the Press Release
In his first solo exhibition at DREI Falsnaes comments on the exhibition space as an equally psychological and social construction. The opening night is the main part of the exhibition. On this date hardly any completed artworks will be exhibited (as is normally the case) but Falsnaes is going to use the event as a platform on which the artworks for the exhibition will be created.
Consequently, in ‘One’ the artist works with the room as if it were a blank white canvas in order to direct - much like a conductor - new forms of painting during the opening night without interfering the process. The exhibition examines the meaning and function of exhibits, sound, display, space, artist and audience within the frame of subjective reception. The exhibition situation switches between autonomic works, additives of the performance act as well as - under consideration of a specific display - a stage-like 3D-canvas and will be accompanied by the live recording of the opening night.
Christian Falsnaes was born in 1980 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Recently he has been involved in exhibitions and performances taking place at KW Institute of Contemporary Art, Haus am Waldsee (both Berlin, Germany), Bonner Kunstverein (Bonn, Germany), Serra dei Giardini (Venice, Italy), Salzburger Kunstverein (Salzburg, Austria), Nikolaj Contemporary Art Center (Copenhagen, Denmark), 21’er Haus, Kunsthalle Wien Project Space (both Vienna, Austria), Galerie im Taxis Palais (Innsbruck, Germany), OSLO10 (Basel, Switzerland), Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle (Warsaw, Poland) and the Museum of Contemporary Art, (Roskilde, Denmark). The artist lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
