Brace Brace is a luxury emergency equipment brand founded by curator Annika Kuhlmann, in collaboration with artist Christopher Kulendran Thomas, to reimagine the aesthetics of fear. Engaging directly in commercial processes, their first product, launched with DIS Magazine, was a gold-plated nautical buoyancy ring clad in black neoprene and mesh. This week they’ll unveil their new prototypes at the NADA art fair with longstanding Miami art space Bas Fisher Invitational. Presented as sculptural components within the brand’s gallery installations, their functional artworks test the possibilities of accelerated consumption in an economy of fear. Charting a dark trajectory toward a sublime apocalypse, Brace Brace seeks to map the political horizons of inflecting rather than opposing existing vectors of capital and desire.
